Thus, the interviews did not take place today. UNMOVIC will continue to seek interviews in private, as allowed in Security Council resolution 1441.

An UNMOVIC chemical team returned to the Al Qa Qaa complex for the seventh day. The team inspected the Research and Development Centre and a waste treatment facility. Thereafter, the team went to the Mamoun Factory, which belongs to the Al Rasheed Company and is located next to the Al Qa Qaa complex. The factory produces munitions and chemical materials for munitions. The team then proceeded to the Al Basil Centre in the Jadriyah complex in Baghdad to assess its current activities. The Al Basil Centre is primarily a research centre for chemical products.

An UNMOVIC team of missile experts traveled 38 km southwest of Baghdad to inspect the Bader State Establishment. This is a tool, die and moulds factory that produces small components for the Al Fatah and Al Samoud missiles.

An UNMOVIC biological team inspected the Baghdad Institute of Technology in Zaafaraniyah, about 10 km southeast of Baghdad, to verify the declaration on the site.

Ten-Point Joint Statement Issued Following IAEA-UN Talks in Baghdad

After two days of talks between the chief IAEA and United Nations arms inspectors and Iraqi officials, Baghdad pledged to offer UN monitors more help in their probe for evidence of weapons of mass destruction.

The sides issued a joint statement following discussions between Hans Blix, Executive Chairman of the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC), Mohamed ElBaradei, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and senior Iraqi officials on the inspection process so far, and other issues that need resolving.

UNMOVIC IAEA Press Statement on Inspection Activities in Iraq

An UNMOVIC chemical team went to the Al Basil Centre-Jadriyah in Baghdad. The Centre is primarily a research centre for petroleum products. The team then proceeded to Fallujah II, approximately 100 km northwest of Baghdad. This site is primarily a phenol and chlorine production facility. A metal analyzing instrument was used on this inspection. Another chemical team returned to the Al Qa Qaa complex to inspect storage facilities. Mobile sampling equipment was utilized during the inspection.

UNMOVIC IAEA Press Statement on Inspection Activities in Iraq

An UNMOVIC multidisciplinary team returned to the Ukhaider Ammunition Storage Area to conduct further analysis of the 12th warhead found at the site on 16 January. The team took additional samples from the warhead and resealed the warhead and the storage building.

Another multidisciplinary team visited the Al-Numan General Company, a manufacturing plant in the vicinity of Baghdad, which is specialized in finishing plastic and metal parts. The status of current activities of the plant was assessed.
