UPDATE: States Conclude Discussions on Nuclear Safety

After a week of intense discussions in Vienna, Austria, the Convention on Nuclear Safety's Second Extraordinary Meeting and the Organizational Meeting for the Sixth Review Meeting has ended.

The Extraordinary Meeting drew together more than 600 participants from 64 Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety (CNS), to discuss long-term nuclear safety in light of the Fukushima Daiichi accident.

Participants discussed a range of nuclear safety-related topics including severe accident management and recovery, reactor design, emergency preparedness, emergency response and post-accident management, as well as international cooperation.

Meeting President Li Ganjie of China's National Nuclear Safety Administration addressed journalists at a Press Conference held after the close of deliberations on Friday, 31 August.
