HE Mr Madis Kallas, Minister of Environment of Estonia, and Hua Liu, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, signed Estonia’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2022–2027 on 26 September 2022. A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.

Estonia has been an IAEA Member State since 1992. Its 2022–2027 CPF identifies 5 priority areas:

  1. Governmental, legal and regulatory framework for safety
  2. Radioactive waste management
  3. Building competence in nuclear safety and radiation protection
  4. Nuclear technology applications and radiation protection in medicine
  5. Consideration of nuclear power
