IAEA and international experts will discuss " quality assurance for quality care" in diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy, with a special emphasis on new and emerging technologies, at a three-day conference next week in Vienna, Austria, entitled Quality Assurance and New Techniques in Radiation Medicine.

IAEA Deputy Director General for Nuclear Sciences and Applications, Mr. Werner Burkart, and Deputy Director General for Technical Cooperation, Ms. Ana María Cetto, will open the conference.

More than 500 experts are expected to take part. They will address improving quality, optimizing practice and reducing risk in radiation imaging and treatment. A special session will address the technology gap as relevant to the needs of developing Member States both in quantity and quality of services using radiation medicine. Multidisciplinary issues such as education, training, telemedicine and data management will also be discussed.
