To help its Member States understand the commitment and obligations associated with developing a safe, secure and sustainable nuclear power programme, the IAEA provides guidance, advice and training, and reviews services according to the ‘Milestones Approach’. Within the framework of an ongoing technical cooperation (TC) project[1], the IAEA is educating and training officials representing interested Member States in the Europe region in the use of water cooled, water moderated power reactor (WWER) technology with advanced safety features.

From 23 to 24 January 2018, project participants from Belarus, Slovakia and the Russian Federation met at IAEA headquarters in Vienna—with officials from Hungary joining remotely—to report on progress achieved to date and finalize work plans for 2018. Member State representatives provided valuable feedback on training courses offered jointly by the IAEA and the ROSATOM Technical Academy and requested additional training on Deterministic Safety Analysis (DSA) and Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) methods. These suggestions will be incorporated in future sessions to ensure they are tailored to national priorities and meet specific needs.
