Description

As the world grapples with the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions, there is an opportunity for nuclear energy to play a pivotal role in expanding low carbon power generation. At last year’s COP28, nuclear power was for the first time recognized at the annual climate summit as necessary to help achieve deep and sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. During the meeting, 22 countries pledged to work towards tripling global nuclear power capacity to help reach net zero by 2050, with three more countries since then joining the pledge. However, financing nuclear energy projects poses unique challenges, but also opportunities, for banks and private sector financiers.

Join us for a webinar which, in the weeks preceding “The Finance COP” in Baku, Azerbaijan, will delve into these complexities. The webinar will discuss opportunities and challenges, risk mitigation strategies, and the role of multilateral development banks as these topics relate to SMRs. It will provide a platform for dialogue between financial institutions, nuclear industry experts, as well as commercial and multilateral development banks.

This webinar is organized by the IAEA’s Planning and Economic Studies Section.
