The Office provides objective, independent and systematic assessments, helping the IAEA to efficiently and effectively carry out its mandate and ensure accountability and sound governance. It regularly conducts audits and evaluations of the Agency's programmes, activities and processes.
The Office also carries out investigations when there are indications of fraud, corruption or misconduct to determine whether wrongdoing occurred. Finally, it offers advisory and consulting services at the request of senior and programme managers to support the continuous improvement of the IAEA's programme performance. The Office reports directly to the Director General to guarantee independence and objectivity. The results of its work are shared annually with Member States through the Board of Governors.
