Latvia signs a Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2013-2018

Mr Andris Eglājs, Head of Administration of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Latvia, and Mr Kwaku Aning, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, have signed Latvia's Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2013 - 2018 on 18 September 2012.

Mr Andris Eglājs, Head of Administration of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Latvia, and Mr Kwaku Aning, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, have signed Latvia's Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2013 - 2018 on 18 September 2012. A Country Programme Framework (CPF) is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.

Latvia has been an IAEA Member State since 1997. Its 2013-2018 CPF identifies five priority areas:

1. Strengthening of the regulatory infrastructure  
2. Management of radioactive waste  
3. Nuclear security
4. Safety culture
5. Human health
