On 1 October, 2008 during the 52nd IAEA General Conference, a TC Europe Regional Meeting was held to discuss the current TC Programme in Europe as well as an overview and finalization of the TC Cycle 2009-2011 Regional Programme.

Following the presentations from Oscar Acu?a, Acting-Director and Manuel Recio, Section Head of TCEU, Prof. Miroslav Veskovic, Assistant Minister of Science and Technological Development from Serbia presented on the current status of the VINCA spent fuel repatriation project.

An important outcome of the Regional Meeting was that the Member States agreed to jointly prepare a strategy paper to implement the Regional Profile of TC Europe and have the road map for the future of the TC Programme in the Region. The Terms of Reference for this Strategy Paper is currently being drafted, and expected to be sent to Member States by the end of this year. An interim report on the Strategy Paper will be presented during the May 2009 Meeting.

Another important point was the need to clarify the responsible project counterparts and Lead Country Coordinators (LCC) for the Regional Europe TC projects that each country is participating in, for the smooth implementation of the new TC Cycle 2009-2011.
