Kwaku Aning, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, IAEA, paid an official visit to Myanmar, on 19-22 March 2013. Joining him was Ali Boussaha, Director of the TC Division for Asia and the Pacific.

During the trip, Mr. Aning delivered a speech to the national representatives attending the 35th Meeting of the Regional Cooperative Agreement for Research, Development and Training Related to Nuclear Science and Technology for Asia and the Pacific (RCA), an annual event which promotes science and development.
During his visit to Myanmar, DDG Aning met with authorities from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the Deputy Minister, U Thant Kyaw.
The DDG delivers the opening speech to the annual RCA Meeting, attended by National Representatives and held in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital city of Myanmar.

Only three radiotherapy centres exist in Myanmar—in Yangon, Mandalay and Taungyi. By training doctors and upgrading equipment, the TC programme is not only increasing access to treatment, but improving the quality of that treatment.

At present, there are 12 ongoing technical cooperation (TC) projects in Myanmar, many of which aim to stimulate education in science and technology.
The IAEA’s TC programme is helping Myanmar to apply isotopic techniques to improve crop productivity and enhance national food security.
