During the September Board of Governors, Ambassador Schulte of the US Mission to the IAEA announced a donation of $500,000 to PACT and its activities in the field. The cheque was presented at a special PACT event on 21 September at the IAEA's 50th General Conference. In a lunch, prior to the presentation, and attended by over 30 Ambassadors and senior representatives of Member States, Ambassador Schulte congratulated PACT on its significant progress to date and re-emphasised the US' support for the programme. As PACT's principal funder to date, Ambassador Schulte said that the US looked forward to the implementation of PACT policies and programmes in the field.

The Model Demonstration Sites were where PACT and its partners could have most impact. At the presentation of the cheque Ambassador Schulte also emphasised that PACT should re-double its efforts to mobilise resources from non-traditional donors in order to have sufficient impact on the cancer epidemic in developing countries. Brief statements were also made by the representatives of Hungary, Albania and Yemen. Ambassador Martin of Hungary reiterated her country's support for PACT and its objectives — a support underlined by Hungary's early contribution to the PACT programme, at its inception.

Both Albania and Yemen, hosts of two of the Model Demonstration Sites welcomed the contributions made by the various donors and stressed the importance of PACT's work in combating the heavy and increasing burden of cancer in their respective countries.
