The TC programme is jointly organized and developed through collaboration between the IAEA Secretariat and its Member States. Using a results-based management approach, technical cooperation projects are designed  to address the key developmental and socio-economic priorities of Member States. In recent years, due in part to the mounting challenges posed by climate change, ensuring sustainable access to potable water has emerged as a central objective of both Honduras and Argentina.

Mr Jose Velasquez, of Honduras' National Water Authority,  and Mr Daniel Cicerone, of Argentina's National  Atomic Energy Commission's Environment Management Division, were recently joined by IAEA experts at the Agency's Vienna headquarters to design TC projects which address water security and sustainability in their respective countries. They had the opportunity to work closely with isotope hydrology experts at the IAEA and also visited the IAEA Isotope Hydrology Laboratory.

As climate change continues to pose new challenges and place new pressures on water and soil resources, it's become increasingly important to invest in proven, environmentally-friendly technologies to ensure their sustainability. Nuclear and isotopic techniques can address these concerns by giving our Member States the tools and information necessary to effectively manage their surface and groundwater sources.
