Estonia Signs its Third Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2016-2021

Mr Meelis Münt, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of the Environment, and Mr Dazhu Yang, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, have signed Estonia’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2016 - 2021 on 27 September 2016. 

A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.

Estonia has been an IAEA Member State since 1992. Its 2016-2021 CPF identifies 5 priority areas:

  1. Strengthening the legal and regulatory infrastructure, including emergency preparedness and response systems;
  2. Strengthening of safe and efficient modern waste management practices and further development of radioactive waste infrastructure and management;
  3. Continuous upgrading of human health sector, including strengthening of Quality Assurance/Quality Control in the diagnostic and radiotherapy centres,
  4. Extensive use of nuclear techniques for environmental monitoring;
  5. Knowledge management through implementation of strategy, and linking national potential in science and technology with the national development priorities and programmes.
