As part of the continuous review and improvement of the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management (Joint Convention), the Contracting Parties agreed, during the Sixth Review Meeting of the Joint Convention, to convene the Fourth Extraordinary Meeting to discuss possible ways to improve procedural mechanisms of the Joint Convention, taking into account the growing number of Contracting Parties and with a view to identifying and eliminating technical discrepancies between existing procedural documents of the Joint Convention.

The Fourth Extraordinary Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Joint Convention will take place at the IAEA’s Headquarters in Vienna, Austria from 4 to 6 May 2022.
