IAEA to Host Geneva Seminars on Sustainable Water Management and Agency's Environmental Programs

2010/15

The International Atomic Energy Agency's Liaison Office in Geneva is hosting two lunchtime seminars on water resource management and the IAEA's work at its Monaco Environment Laboratories.

The first session, Meeting the Challenges of Sustainable Water Resources Management, will convene on Thursday, 7 October 2010 at the Palais des Nations, UNOG Library (Door B20, Building B 1st Floor) from 13:00 to 15:00.

The IAEA′s Water Resources Programme seeks to aid developing nations to meet their basic water needs, reduce their vulnerabilities, and empower their people to develop and control their resources. Using IAEA-assisted isotope hydrology techniques can help nations to understand the movement and quality of their water supplies, enabling leaders to make effective decisions about sustainable water management. Seminar speakers will include:

  • Mr. Pradeep Aggarwal Section Head, Isotope Hydrology Section, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
  • Mr. Tommaso Abrate, Scientific Officer, Basic Systems in Hydrology Division, World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
  • Ms. Annukka Lipponen Environmental Affairs Officer, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)

The second session, An Overview of activities of the IAEA′s Monaco Environment Laboratories, will meet on Friday, 22 October 2010 at the Palais des Nations, UNOG Library (Door B20, Building B 1st Floor) from 13:00 to 15:00.

The seminar will describe the IAEA′s role in preserving a healthy marine environment and the sustainable development of marine resources. Seminar speakers will include:

  • Ms. Maria Betti, Director, International Atomic Energy Agency Environment Laboratories (IAEA)
  • Mr. Robert Bechtloff, Programme Officer, United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP)
