Gloria Navarrete Pinto, Ambassador and Resident Representative to the IAEA, and Dazhu Yang, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, signed Chile’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2020–2025 on 25 June 2020. A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.
Chile has been an IAEA Member State since 1960. Its 2020–2025 CPF identifies 10 priority areas:
- Climate change and climate change plant species adaptability
- Nuclear and radiological safety
- Establishment of an independent regulatory authority
- Pest control using the sterile insect technique
- Food safety, traceability and authenticity
- Nutritional assessment and monitoring
- Diagnosis and treatment of cancer
- Assessment and management of water resources, marine and coastal environment?
- Use of the RECH-1 reactor
- Nuclear knowledge management
