Each year, in recognition of World Cancer Day-observed annually on February 4th-the world pauses to remember the millions of preventable deaths caused by cancer, and unites to raise awareness of the ongoing epidemic. Proposed by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), this year's theme is 'Not Beyond Us'.

To mark the occasion of World Cancer Day, the IAEA's Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT) will host a roundtable panel discussion with notable speakers from around the world to address some of the issues regarding comprehensive cancer control in developing countries. The panel will explore and discuss a range of topics, including equity, accessibility, affordability, quality, partnerships, and health systems financing.

Members of the panel are expected to include Her Excellency Ms Roman Tesfaye, First Lady of Ethiopia; Dr Doyin Oluwole, Executive Director of the Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon Initiative of the George W. Bush Institute; Dr Tezer Kutluk, President of the UICC; Dr Kennedy Lishimpi, Executive Director of the Zambia Cancer Diseases Hospital; and Ms May Abdel-Wahab, Director of the Division of Human Health at the IAEA. The event will be held at the Vienna International Centre in Boardroom B, M Building, at 14:15 on 4 February.

The event is open for external guests by invitation. For more information, please contact PACT at pact@iaea.org
