The Department of Technical Cooperation (TC) will host three side events and a substantial exhibition on the IAEA's technical cooperation programme during the IAEA's 57th General Conference, which is taking place at the Vienna International Centre from 16 to 20 September 2013. The Department of Technical Cooperation will also host a One House exhibition jointly with the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications (NA) and the Department of Nuclear Energy (NE).

All three technical cooperation side events will take place on Wednesday, 18 September 2013. They include the signature of the Nubian Strategic Action Programme by Chad, Egypt, Libya and Sudan and the newly established Joint Authority, which provides a framework for the integrated management of the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System, and two panel events, one on innovative technologies for waste water treatment and marine environment protection, and another on strengthening cradle-to-grave control of radioactive sources in the Mediterranean region.

The signature of the Strategic Action Programme for the Nubian Aquifer will take place in MOE79 from 10:45 to 12:00, followed by a closed business meeting for the counterparts of the Nubian Aquifer project.

The panel event on waste water is related to the second session of the Scientific Forum, 'H2O: Hilltops to Oceans', and takes an in-depth look at the innovative use of e-beam technology to break down waste and pollutants in water, thereby preventing their entry into the water cycle. The event will take place in M7 from 13:00 to 15:00.

The panel event on control of disused sealed radioactive sources will focus on the goal, progress and achievements of an active TC interregional project (INT9176) supported by the European Commission (EC), and on how the IAEA may further support improved control of radioactive sources in the Mediterranean region. This event will also take place in M7, from 15:00 to 17:00.

The TC Department will present an exhibition on the IAEA's technical cooperation programme on the ground floor, A-OE, next to the entrance of the M building. The display area will be divided into two exhibits on both sides of the A-OE corridor. Staff will be available at the exhibition to answer the questions of conference participants and to provide insight to the IAEA's work.

The One House exhibition will be located on the second floor of the M Building throughout the conference and will showcase the areas where the IAEA contributes to sustainable development. It consists of six eye-catching wall displays and reflects the IAEA's work in the fields of human health, agriculture and food security, energy, waste, water and oceans, the environment and industrial applications.
