Ukraine signs its third Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2013-2017

Olena Mykolaichuk, Chairman, State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, and Kwaku Aning, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, have signed Ukraine's Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2013-2017 on 20 September 2013.

Olena Mykolaichuk, Chairman, State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, and Kwaku Aning, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, have signed Ukraine's Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2013-2017 on 20 September 2013. A Country Programme Framework (CPF) is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.

Ukraine has been an IAEA Member State since 1957. Its 2013-2017 CPF identifies five priority areas:

  1. Lifetime management of nuclear power plants
  2. Comprehensive assistance to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant decommissioning including Chernobyl Exclusion Zone
  3. Developing and adopting national strategy for the management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel in line with the best international practices
  4. Cancer management and dosimetry in nuclear medicine
  5. Strengthening effectiveness of regulatory regime, revision of regulatory regulations including requirements for site selection and public relations
