Asia and Pacific Regional ALARA Network (ARAN)

History

The Asia Region ALARA Network (ARAN) was initiated by the IAEA in Daejeon, Republic of Korea in December 2007, to support the development of a sustainable regional network, which facilitates information, findings and data exchange and practical and cost-effective implementation of the principle of optimisation of radiation protection in participating countries. The last re coordination meeting was organized virtually on 6 May 2021, hosted by the China Institute for Radiation Protection (CIRP) and attended by 16 country representatives from the region. ?The meeting identified Acting Steering Committee to be in charge for the preparation of the Management Board Meeting.

Objectives

To maintain, enhance and develop competence and skills in radiation protection, with special emphasis on the implementation of the ALARA principle for occupational exposures in routine operations, contribute to the harmonisation of objectives, standards and practices, particularly concerning ALARA, within participating countries and contribute to the effective use, exchange and integration of skills and expertise across Member States.

Management

ARAN is coordinated by Steering Committee, IAEA and Regional Cooperative Agreement (RCA), comprising representatives of 17 countries: Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Rep of Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Viet Nam.

Workshops

Once a year; a few tens of participants; an exchange of experiences leading to sets of recommendations.
