Construction Readiness Review (CORR)

Review missions

The Construction Readiness Review service assesses a nuclear power plant project's readiness to proceed to its initial or next construction phase. A CORR mission can be deployed before the start of a major construction, at a major project milestone, or at any other time requested by a Member State.

CORR assessments help project teams ensure the best preparedness level for construction activities. The reviews are applicable to new build nuclear power plant projects, major plant refurbishments or other large projects. They include a review of project planning processes, major risks, preparedness for subsequent project phases, and engineering and construction readiness. CORR mission teams are typically made up of international experts in the nuclear field, similar to IAEA's Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review or Operational Safety Review Team missions.

CORR missions specifically cover the following review areas:

  • Project management
  • Engineering readiness (engineering deliverables required to support construction)
  • Readiness of procurement, material and supply chain (material available to support construction activities)
  • Quality management and records
  • Human resources and training
  • Construction readiness
  • Construction installation completion assurance and system turnover processes
  • Targeted area reviews and technical visits as requested by the Member State

Organizations in Member States such as nuclear utilities, owners, regulators and technical support organizations can benefit from CORR reviews.

Member States must submit a formal request to the IAEA for a CORR mission to be initiated. This request should be sent at least nine months before the proposed mission date and should include information on the plant, name of the project, proposed period and scope for the mission, and contact information (email and telephone).
