Introduction

The use of active and passive nuclear detection technologies is expanding as technology improves and the threat continues to adapt. Countries need to have up to date knowledge of the technologies and issues with equipment specification, use, and sustainment. In 2019, the IAEA and the China Atomic Energy Agency (CAEA) entered into an Agreement that established a Collaborating Center for Nuclear Security with specific focus on research, development, testing, and training on nuclear security detection and physical protection technologies. This webinar is being offered as a Collaborating Center activity and will provide an overview and solicit input from States on their needs and issues for further examination and discussion in a Technical Meeting (TM) on the topic in late 2021.

Objectives

The objective of the webinar is to provide an overview of passive and active detection technologies used for detection of CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear and explosive materials) and other contraband. Additionally, the webinar will solicit ideas and issues for further discussion at the larger TM planned on the topic for Q3 2021.

Target audience

Expert organization, policy makers, and front-line organizations involved in the specification, procurement, and use of passive and active nuclear detection technologies used for detection of CBRNE and other contraband.

Programme

The webinar will be hosted by Mr Charles Massey, Nuclear Security Officer of the IAEA’s Nuclear Security Materials outside of Regulatory Control Section, Division of Nuclear Security. Experts from Member States will be presenting on relevant topics and available for questions and answers.
