The Agency initiated a regular programme of technical assistance immediately after the conclusions of the first session of its General Conference in 1957. Its main objectives are to promote the transfer of skills and knowledge relating to the peaceful uses of atomic energy, to support the efforts made by recipient countries to carry out their nuclear energy activities more efficiently and safely, and to ensure that the knowledge acquired can continue to be applied after Agency projects have been completed.
