The September 2005 IAEA Bulletin edition features some of the valued contributions to human development that are being made through IAEA-supported technical and scientific projects. The focus is on healthcare, child nutrition, food, and water, set in the context of the world?s wider efforts to eradicate poverty and achieve goals for development and security. Indeed this issue is published the same month the UN holds a summit to overhaul the efforts to reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) adopted in 2000. The IAEA uses isotopes to help populations have access to water; it improves agriculture with breeding techniques; it has developed a programme of Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT). This edition also reports on the struggle of physicists in Africa, and features calls for action from eminent persons.
