This e-learning course is designed to provide specialized training on international safety standards and best practices for radiation protection of both patients and healthcare professionals in diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine. Participants will gain knowledge on safety aspects related to the use of classical radiopharmaceuticals and the introduction of new radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis and treatment, as well as those related to hybrid imaging (SPECT-CT and PET-CT).The course is based on the programme of the Joint ICTP-IAEA Workshop on Radiation Protection in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine, held in Trieste, Italy, in October 2021. The content of the lectures covered several points that were either under development or in clinical trials at the time of the workshop and are now part of routine clinical practice. As a result, the course content is highly relevant and of great importance today.?The course primarily targets medical physicists working in nuclear medicine, but it is also suitable for other specialists interested in the topic, including nuclear medicine physicians, nuclear medicine technologists, radiopharmacists, as well as regulators and inspectors interested in nuclear medicine.?Through this 21-module course, participants are expected to:?Understand radiation protection principles and regulations in nuclear medicine.Acquire an overview of radiopharmaceuticals and their applications in nuclear medicine practice.Understand principles and practices of radiation protection for patients, carers and comforters and staff in nuclear medicine, including exposure of foetuses and breastfed infants.Gain practical skills in handling radioactive materials and monitoring radiation levels.Foster a culture of safety and incident management in nuclear medicine.
