The March 2008 IAEA Bulletin edition takes a close look at the unfolding global scene for energetic, economic and environmental development. It includes interviews and reports from global and national experts. In many regions, nuclear power is deep in the mix of energy plans; issues of fuel supply, waste disposal, worker training, safety and financing are being debated. From radioisotopes to used fuel, the safety and security of radioactive sources and nuclear materials are also examined in other nuclear technologies and applications. Countries must face illegal nuclear trafficking together. The IAEA?s emphasis on helping countries to achieve a safer, cleaner environment is central to help them fight poverty and raise their standards of living. Regional projects around the globe apply nuclear science and technology to protect the ocean and coastal lands from growing pollution and contamination. In parallel, the IAEA could play in the future an even greater role in non-proliferation and disarmament.
