Costa Rica Signs a Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2017-2023

Ms Carolina Vásquez Soto, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, and Mr Dazhu Yang, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, have signed Costa Rica’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2017-2023 on 29 September 2016. The signing ceremony was also attended by Ms Pilar Saborío de Rocafort, Resident Representative of Costa Rica to the IAEA. 

A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.

Costa Rica has been an IAEA Member State since 1965. Its 2017-2023 CPF identifies 4 priority areas:

  1. Agriculture and the environment;
  2. Radiation protection and safety;
  3. Health services; and
  4. Industry.
