HE. Mr. Foo Kok Jwee, Ambassador and Resident Representative of Singapore to the IAEA, and Mr Dazhu Yang, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, have signed Singapore’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2016-2020 on 5 December 2016. A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.

Singapore has been an IAEA Member State since 1967. Its 2016-2020 CPF identifies five priority areas:

  1. Safety and security
  2. Health and Nutrition
  3. Industrial Applications/Radiation Technology
  4. Water and the Environment
  5. Sterile Insect Technology

In the near term programme, Singapore has put emphasis on building sustainable competency and capability in radiation protection and radiation monitoring; emergency preparedness and response; nuclear medicine and radiotherapy; strengthening the nuclear regulatory regime; and radiation, transport and waste safety
